Dental laminate or veneer is a ceramic coating that is the same color as the tooth and is placed on the teeth and changes the color, shape, size or length of the teeth to the desired state of the person.
Dental composite is not suitable for the following people and is not recommended:
- People whose teeth are unhealthy due to decay or gum disease.
- People whose teeth have become weak as a result of decay, fractures and fillings.
- Those who do not have enough enamel on the surface of their teeth.
- People who have gritted teeth and grind their teeth, because this habit can cause cracking or fracturing of veneers.
The difference between composite and laminate
Teeth are layered in two ways:
- Polymer composite
- Ceramic laminate
There are many differences between ceramic laminate and composite; For example, ceramic laminate, as its name implies, is made of ceramic and has a more beautiful appearance.
Dental composite is more popular due to its choice of color type and its little thickness (usually 0.5 mm) as well as getting it done quickly. Another advantage of dental composite is its lower cost than ceramic laminate.
Dental ceramic laminate or porcelain veneer, the price of which is relatively higher than the composite type, is usually made in the laboratory, but it has more variety in terms of material type and brilliance, and of course its beautiful appearance which is one of the most important parameters for people to choose. Due to its higher quality and durability, this type of laminate is better for people.
How dental laminate is done?
After consulting, photographing and solving other dental problems such as decay, the first step of the dental laminate process is molding.
After the tooth is shaved, the dentist molds the tooth and then sends the mold to the laboratory. Laminates usually take 1 to 2 weeks to prepare, so during this time the dentist uses temporary coatings to protect the teeth.
After preparing the ceramic shells, with the help of a special and light-sensitive resin, it places the laminate on the tooth and tightens the laminate on the tooth by shining laser beams.
