Ovarian Cysts

Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that form in some parts of the body, such as the ovaries. Ovarian cysts are very common in women. Most ovarian cysts are asymptomatic and sometimes the person never notices them unless accidentally on ultrasound. Cysts that develop twisting, bleeding, or rupture may cause some problems. Problems such as abdominal pain, vague back pain, pain during sex, painful menstruation and abnormal bleeding, nausea and vomiting, difficulty urinating, loss of appetite and a feeling of rapid satiety.

Surgical method

Ovarian cysts can be treated with non-surgical methods, but if the treatment is not effective and the cyst grows, it can lead to severe pain and distressing symptoms for the patient. Laparoscopic surgery is used in Mortaz hospital.

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which small incisions of about 2 cm are made in the abdominal wall. Through the laparoscope, the surgeon enters the abdominal area and accesses the ovary and the cyst, and the cyst is removed.

There is another surgical procedure called laparotomy, which is an open surgical procedure. This procedure involves making a simple, large incision in the lower abdomen to allow the surgeon to access the ovary, which is a more invasive surgical procedure than laparoscopy.

In most cases, laparoscopic surgery is used, but sometimes, in some cases, such as when the ovarian cyst is very large or there is a possibility of cancer, this method is used because it is safer. Sometimes, during laparoscopy, the surgeon is forced to change the surgical procedure and perform laparotomy to remove the cyst safely from the abdomen.

The patient is expected to be hospitalized and treated for three days to five days, depending on the type of cyst, the size of the cyst, the type of surgery, and the patient’s physical condition. And they should be under the care of a doctor at home for about a week to a month, depending on the patient’s condition.
