Yazd City of Historical Attractions

Before speaking about the tourist attractions of Yazd, it is better to introduce the city first. Yazd can be introduced as one of the central cities of Iran, which is known as one of the historical cities and the point of intersection of Iran's center, which receives a large number of domestic and foreign tourists every year. Perhaps most foreign tourists know the cities of Isfahan and Shiraz in Iran and travel to them. We all know the city of Yazd with the names of the city of windmills, Dar Al-Alam, Desert Bride and the city of bicycles, all of which can be considered as a definition of this city. It is interesting to know that Yazd is the first brick city in the world and also the second historical city in the world. Another honor for this city is that Yazd is the first city registered in the UNESCO World Heritage. With all that mentioned, it can be said that Yazd is known as an international city.

Knowing the tourist attractions of Yazd


1- Yazd Grand Mosque: This mosque is known as a historical masterpiece in the world, which has been registered as one of the tourist attractions of Yazd in 1934 in the national monuments of Iran. The construction of this mosque has lasted in three different periods and about 100 years, and the main foundations of this mosque were built during the Sassanid era; Its architectural style also belongs to two Azeri periods. The main building of the dome of the house belongs to the Ilkhanate period and its head belongs to the Timurid period and the time of Shahrokh Shah.
The features of Yazd Grand Mosque include the dome, unique tiles and its lofty gate. If you want to see this beautiful monument, you can go to the west side of Imam Khomeini Street. This quarter is one of the old quarters of Yazd which worth to see.
 

2- Yazd Fire Temple: The fire temple is a kind of place of worship that was known as a place of worship in Zoroastrian times. Zoroastrians lit fires in fire temples and read Avesta and Ghats around it. Considering that the religion of the Iranian people was once Zoroastrian, there are many of these fire temples in different cities of Iran, one of which is the Yazd Fire Temple, which is known as one of the tourist attractions of Yazd. This fire temple is also known as Bahram among the people of Yazd and this name was given to it because the holy fire of Bahram is located inside this fire temple. This fire has not been extinguished for about 1500 years and visitors can see this fire through the glass.

 

3- Markar Square: Markar Square, also known as Markar or Ferdowsi Clock, consists of three parts: the base, the tower body and the top of the tower. Markar Square Complex, Markar High School and Markar Orphanage were built at the expense of the Zoroastrians living in India. Its outer body is made of cement and its height is 4 meters, it belongs to 1934. The interesting thing about this clock is that it is geographically located right in the center of Iran. This clock is tuned once a week and is registered in the list of national monuments of Iran. Information such as the date of construction, the name of the manufacturer and the old name of the Markar clock are engraved on the body by verses.

 

 

4- Dolatabad Garden: If you want to visit the tourist attractions of Yazd, we suggest you not to miss Dolatabad Garden. This garden, along with 9 other Iranian gardens, has been registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List, which can be considered a great honor for Iranian gardens. The international fame of Dolatabad Garden is not hidden from anyone.
One of the prominent features of this garden, which has caused a large number of tourists to visit it every year, is the existence of the world's tallest windbreak inside this garden. Also, the design of this garden is such that it can be the symbol of an original and innovative Iranian garden. Inside this garden, there are four main buildings, which unfortunately one of them has been destroyed, but the three other buildings with the names of Talar Tanbi, Hashti and Sardar are still standing. This garden was registered in the national monuments of Iran in 1967.

 

 

5- Yazd Desert: Yazd deserts are a place where you can enjoy the silence and starry nights, overnight stays around the fire, camel riding, motorcycling, desert wandering with off-road exciting cars and gliding on soft desert sands. So you can travel there and had a special experience. Yazd province, due to its dry climate, has several beautiful deserts and desert hiking camps that in recent years have been able to host desert enthusiasts. 6- Tamehr spring of Taft: Taft Tamehr spring is one of the sites of Taft and tourist attractions of Yazd. This spring is located 6 km away from Taft city and next to the road from Yazd to Shiraz. This spring often has relatively good water from early spring to late summer, and with the onset of autumn, its watering decreases and sometimes it dries completely. For this reason, the name of this spring is Tamehr which in Persian means "until autumn". Tamehr spring water is one of the richest mineral waters in this region and is the result of melting snow and ice that settles on the mountains of this region. Tamher spring of Taft summer area is a tourist and recreational area with an area of 10 hectares. Tamher spring with at least 7 degrees' temperature difference is the best place near Yazd that you can enjoy the shade of the tree and the coolness of the water and the soaring mountains.

 

7- Yazd aqueducts: Yazd aqueducts are one of the most important aqueducts in Iran and are the artery of life in the heart of the central desert of Iran. People in many cities in the region could not live without these aqueducts. Because water has always been the most important factor of development and with this ancient innovation, Iranians were able to have safe water throughout the year. Areas that were desert or the cities on the edge of deserts have always been a priority for aqueducts. It is interesting to know that the aqueduct or kariz is one of the inventions of the Iranians and has made human life and civilization possible on the edge of the desert. One of the longest aqueducts is the Zarch aqueduct in Yazd, which is about 100 km long and is one of the longest aqueducts in Iran and even in the world. According to studies on this aqueduct, it is possible that the time of operation of Zarch aqueduct will reach around 1300 AD.
 

8- Amir Chakhmaq Square: When speaking about Yazd most of the people remind Amir Chakhmaq Square. This square is one of the symbols of Yazd, which is also known as one of the tourist attractions of Yazd. This square is known for the fact that a collection of historical monuments of Yazd is located in it. The collection of historical monuments of Amir chakhmaq of Yazd includes bazaar, tekyeh, mosque and water storage, which date back to the Timurid period and have been registered in the list of historical monuments of Iran. One of the most famous parts of this square is a tekyeh with tall minarets, which is one of the most original examples in the city of Yazd.
In the past, a ruler named Haji Ghanbar built a bazaar in Amir Chakhmaq Square in Yazd to be a market for selling Yazd handicrafts. This market, which shows a manifestation of the past, has now undergone changes. Haji Ghanbar Bazaar is a part of Amir Chakhmaq complex where you can buy goods such as fabrics, sweets, gold and carpets. This covered bazaar is one of the oldest parts of Yazd, which in addition to unique architecture, is decorated with beautiful tile decorations.
It may be interesting to know that this historical square dates back to the ninth century AH and the reason for its naming can be related to the name of its builder. In the ninth century AH, Amir Jalaluddin Chakhmaq built this square for the gathering of the people of Yazd by the order of the that time's officials. The function of this square is still preserved and most of the gatherings of the people of Yazd are in this place.

 

9- House of the Laries: The subject of tourism in Yazd has such a wide range that we have to talk about it for hours. Another tourist attraction of Yazd is the house of the Laries. This building is about 150 years old and in fact this building was built during the Qajar period. The owner of this house was a person named Haj Mohammad Ibrahim Lari. In fact, when the people of Lar migrated from Shiraz to Yazd, they built houses in different parts of the city, one of which is the present-day the Laries house, which is known as one of the tourist attractions of Yazd.
The mirrored rooms of this house show that it is a nobility that dazzles the eyes of every viewer. In the house of the laries, you can see six houses, the architecture of all of them is like the architecture of desert houses, and for this reason, in 1996, this building was registered in the national monuments of Iran. To see this historical house, you can go to Imam Khomeini Street, Fahadan neighborhood.

 

10- Khamoushan Tower: In relation to the tourist attractions of Yazd, if we take a look around this city, we can see the Khamoushan Tower (The silents Tower). This tower is known as one of the most important and largest Zoroastrian crypts in the world, the location of it can be introduced about 15 km southeast of the city. In fact, in this place, there is an area called Safaieh, which has two stone mansions in the shape of a tower on top of a low sedimentary mountain; The space between these two towers is empty, which is called the crypt place and is known as one of the tourist attractions of Yazd.
Due to the fact that mourning for the dead is forbidden in Zoroastrianism, they took the bodies of the dead to the Silent Tower so that the bodies of the dead could return to nature away from any pollution. It is interesting to know that these crypts have separate sections for men, women and children, and each of the dead was placed in its own place to be eaten by birds and predators.

 

11- Ziaieh School: This school is also known as Alexander Prison; by hearing these two quite different names, you may ask yourself why two different names have been considered for this place. In response, it should be said: the different names indicate the dual use of this place. Ziaieh school, which is known as one of the tourist attractions of Yazd, was built in 631 AH. However, in some documents, the year of construction of this place is 705 AH.
This place was originally built as a place for teaching and learning science, and usually held discussions for scholars and elders. Now, why it is called Alexander Prison can be explained in this way: a few years after the construction of this building, a number of exiles and prisoners of Alexander the Great were sent to Yazd, and for this reason, this name is considered for this place. It was in 1967 that this place was included in the list of national monuments of Iran due to its attractions for visitors. In fact, this historical place is a sign of civilization, history, identity and culture of the Iranian people, which is very important in this regard. To see this valuable historical place, you can go to the historical neighborhood of Fahadan, next to the tomb of the Twelve Imams.

 

12- Tomb of the Twelve Imams: If you want to see the oldest building in Yazd up close, it is better to visit the tomb of the Twelve Imams in Fahadan neighborhood. This tomb is known as one of the tourist attractions of Yazd, which was built during the Seljuk period. This place has become very important in terms of Islamic architecture due to its special and unique style and the drawings and inscriptions used in it. The year of registration of it in the list of national works of Iran dates back to1934.

 

13- Water Museum: Usually museums are one of the places that contain special concepts such as culture, customs, originality, etc. One of the tourist attractions of Yazd is the Water Museum, which you can visit to find out the history of water in Yazd for several thousand years. This museum is located in one of the old houses of Yazd called the House of the Kolahdouzes, which dates back to 2001, which happened at the same time with the first charisma conference in Yazd. In fact, the purpose of building this museum in the desert city of Yazd is to show the importance of this divine blessing in a desert city like Yazd. 14- Shesh Badgir Reservoir: As you know, the number of water reservoirs in Yazd is very high, but if you want to visit the most beautiful reservoir in Iran, you can refer to Yazd Shesh Badgir Reservoir. Among the tourist attractions of Yazd, this place is one of the most beautiful historical places, which we suggest you visit if you travel to Yazd. As the name of this historical monument shows, there are six louvres in this place which belong to the Qajar period (badgir in Persian means louvre). For this reservoir, two entrances have been considered, one in the north of the reservoir and the other in the south.
